In 1998, then Prime Minister Hashimoto led a declaration at the G8 Summit in Birmingham (UK) of the need to address global parasite control (Hashimoto Initiative), contributing to the international spread of school health.
FRESH (Focusing Resources on Effective School Health) was proposed as a comprehensive school health framework in 2000.
