Community and School-based Parasite Control Activities in LaoPDR

From April 26 to 29, 2025, Dr. Sachi Tomokawa, Shinshu University, together with Dr. Takeshi Akiyama, Nagano College of Nursing conducted activities to prevent Opisthorchis viverrine(OV) infection.
Ov is a foodborne trematode and it is infected by eating raw or insufficiently heated fish.
The OV is endemic in the South-Central and Southern parts of Lao PDR.
In Lao PDR, Dr. Tomokawa collaborated with staff from the Faculty of Education at the National University of Laos, the Champasak Provincial Education Department, and the education and health departments of Kon and Munlapamok districts to provide training on how to create skits to educate villagers in epidemic areas and primary and secondary school students about OV prevention.
