Symposium at the Joint congress on Global Health 2024  in Japan: The Proposal from Asia for Promotion and Future Co-Innovation of School Health

The Japanese Consortium for Global School Health Research organized a symposium entitled "The proposal from Asia for promotion and future co-innovation of School Health” .

The proposal from Asia included the need to expand the scope of school health research and activities from primary education to preschool and secondary education, the need to develop school health activities along the life course, and the need to address diverse issues such as children with disabilities, comprehensive sex education, preconception care and mental health.

At the beginning of the session, the organizer, Dr. Sachi Tomokawa (Executive Director of the Consortium), explained the purpose of the project, followed by Dr. Tomokawa's report on school health activities in preschool education.
Then, Ms. Yagi of HANDS reported on nutrition-related activities targeting preschool education in Kericho, Kenya; Ms. Mami Hitachi, a researcher of tropical medicine at Nagasaki University, reported on pre-conception care for adolescents; and Ms. Miyu Matsumoto of Osaka University reported on comprehensive sex education for adolescents.
Furthermore, from an inclusive perspective, Yasuhiko Kamiya of Nagasaki University's Institute of Tropical Medicine reported on school health for children with disabilities and children born small, and finally, Akihiro Nishio of Gifu University reported on mental health activities in schools, their significance and challenges.

After the six presentations, Ms. Maki Ozawa from JICA provided comments on the presentation and shared information about the trends in support within JICA's related fields.
